CORVALLIS, Oregon – Utah State golf finished tied for fifth at 9-under 843 (279-281-283) at the Oregon State Invitational held here at the par-71 Trysting Tree Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. It is USU's best 54-hole score, second top five placing and second under-par finish of the fall.
Oregon won the 12-team tournament at 17-under 835 (280-278-277), while Boise State's Reese Knox claimed medalist honors at 9-under 204 (71-65-68).
Sophomore Jackson Pieratt, a transfer from Tennessee State, led Utah State as he tied for fifth at 7-under 206 (70-69-71) for his lowest and best-ever 54-hole score. It is his best finish of the year, and second under-par finish this fall. Overall, it is his fourth top five finish of his career and his second top 20 placing this fall with the Aggies. Pieratt began the tournament with a 1-under 70 and then carded a 2-under 69 during his second round, followed by a 4-under 67 during his final 18 holes, which is tied for his lowest round of the season. He has now shot six rounds under par this fall and has five rounds in the 60s.
Junior Chase Goetschel tied for 12th at 3-under 210 (68-70-72) for his best-ever 54-hole score, fifth finish under par and his third-career top 20 placing. He began the tournament with a 3-under 68 and then carded a 1-under 70, followed by a 1-over 72. He has now carded six rounds in the 60s in his career and 14 rounds under par.
Freshman Brady Powell (70-74-72) and sophomore Zach Skinner (73-71-72) tied for 39th at 3-over 216. For Powell, it is his best-ever 54-hole score as his opening round of 1-under 70 is his second round under par this fall. Skinner also posted his best finish and best 54-hole score this fall.
Junior Toby Heider rounded out the Aggie golfers as he tied for 48th at 4-over 217 (71-71-75).
Utah State will continue with its fall schedule on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 26-27, at the George Washington-hosted Monterrey International Invitational in Monterrey, Mexico.
