LOGAN, Utah – At the Steve T. Reeder Memorial Invitational, Utah State's cross country program achieved its second title sweep of the season, winning both team and individual titles.
The men's squad stuck together from start to finish in the 7k race, securing the top four positions, scoring 20 points for the team win. Freshman
Stockton Stevens led the Aggies across the line to take the men's fourth individual victory this season ahead of Snow College (50), 880 (79), Northern Colorado (80), and Colorado Northwestern CC (128).
On the women's side, the Aggies tallied 30 points to capture the team title as Snow College (46) held off Northern Colorado (47) in the battle for second place. Senior
Sarah Ellis took a decisive victory in the 5k race, finishing more than 40 seconds ahead of the field for her first career race win.
"Both teams ran really well," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Artie Gulden. "It was great how the guys worked together and kept the group together for the first half of the race. After that, they worked together in pairs. It was great to see how they executed and worked together."
"The ladies got broken up early on, but that was by design because we wanted to give Sarah a harder effort to help her remember what it feels like to go out fairly hard. Fortunately, she was able to shut it down and cruise during the last mile. All of the ladies fought hard at the end, picking up four to five points, which was great to see."
Behind Steven's personal-best 21:21.1 victory in the men's race was senior
Logan Garnica, who clocked a 21:29.5 to finish second in his first race of the season. Freshman
Tayshaun Ogomo cut more than a minute from his personal best, running a 21:32.5 to place third ahead of junior
Bryce Hill, who crossed in fourth place with a 21:36.1. Freshman
Aidan Neal completed the scoring for USU, placing 12
th in 22:14.5, just a tenth of a second quicker than his previous best.
Making her first start of the season for the Aggies, Ellis won in 18:09.5. Freshman
Addy Duellman followed in second for her best result of the year, setting a personal best of 18:53.3. Sophomore
Taylor Palmer also posted a personal best, finishing fifth in 19:13.7. Junior
