LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis freshman
Terezia Mlkva has been named the Mountain West Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The freshman from Piestany, Slovakia, went 3-1 across singles and doubles play to help Utah State secure its best start to a season (4-1) since 2022 with wins over Idaho State and Weber State in a home doubleheader.
Mlkva provided the clinching point in both matches from the No. 1 singles position. Against Idaho State, she earned a three-set victory over Millie Day, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, to seal the team win. She then followed with another clutch performance against Weber State, outlasting Jessica Hill in a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7 (3), 7-5 battle to again secure the final point in Utah State's 4-1 victory.
In doubles play, Mlkva teamed up with
Natalie Paterova at the No. 1 position against Weber State and helped clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 win.
The honor marks Mlkva's first career MW Freshman of the Week award.
