LOGAN, Utah- Utah State women's tennis fell just short on the road Sunday afternoon, dropping a tightly contested 4-3 match to Eastern Washington at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Washington.

Doubles
Utah State secured the doubles point to open the match, earning wins at the second and third positions. Sophomore Natalie Paterova and freshman Terezia Mlkva picked up a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, while freshmen Maria Paula Ramos Garcia and Nadine Abid followed with a 6-3 win at the third spot. Eastern Washington claimed the top position, 6-2, but the Aggies held a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Singles
Eastern Washington battled back in singles, winning four of the six matches to secure the 4-3 team victory. Freshman Terezia Mlkva was the first Aggie to strike, earning a straight-sets 6-4, 6-4 win at the top position to extend Utah State's lead. Freshman Chahd Tourkhani added another point for USU with a strong 6-2, 6-3 victory at the fifth spot. The Eagles claimed the remaining matches in tightly contested play. Sabina Pintea pushed her match at No. 2 singles to three sets before falling in a tiebreak, 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 7-6 (7-4). Eastern Washington also picked up wins at the third, fourth and sixth positions to clinch the overall 4-3 result.
