LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis freshman
Terezia Mlkva earned Mountain West Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week honors for the second-straight week, the conference announced Wednesday.
The freshman from Piestany, Slovakia, went 3-1 across singles and doubles play during Utah State's tight road losses at Gonzaga and Eastern Washington, competing at the top of the singles lineup in both contests.
Mlkva earned a pair of straight-sets victories at the No. 1 singles position, beginning with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Gonzaga's Diana Yanotovskaya to even the overall match score for the Aggies. She followed with another strong performance against Eastern Washington, defeating Anait Arutiunian, 6-4, 6-4, and becoming the first Aggie to finish in singles play to extend Utah State's early lead. The wins improved her record to 4-2 on the season at the top singles spot.
In doubles play, Mlkva teamed up with
Natalie Paterova at the No. 2 position and helped secure the doubles point against Eastern Washington with a 6-3 victory, contributing to Utah State's 1-0 lead heading into singles action.
The honor marks Mlkva's second MW Freshman of the Week award this season.
