LOGAN, Utah – Utah State University Vice President and Director of Athletics Cameron Walker announced Friday the hiring of Emily Fulton as deputy athletics director and chief strategy officer.

Fulton joins Utah State after five-plus years at Virginia Military Institute. She began her VMI tenure in 2021 as assistant to the athletics director for operations, support and logistics. In 2022, Fulton was promoted to assistant athletics director for operations and finance and senior woman administrator.

In 2023, she was elevated to associate athletics director of internal operations and SWA. Fulton was promoted to executive associate athletics director and senior woman administrator in 2025, while overseeing the baseball, lacrosse, wrestling, mixed rifle and women's rifle programs. Over the past three years, she served on the executive leadership team, leading budget strategy and guiding high-level financial planning.

"Emily will be a tremendous addition to our team and will play a key role in supporting and advancing our organizational strategy as we transition into the Pac-12 conference," said Walker. "Her experience in operations, finance and sport administration, along with her time at VMI and TCU, make her well suited to support our student-athletes, staff and coaches and help us modernize our department."

Fulton co-chaired the university wide cultural and environmental strategic planning subcommittee and served on VMI's Strategic Planning Steering Committee. During her tenure, she oversaw several units, including strength and conditioning, finance, athletic training and the ticket office. Fulton also served as sport administrator for men's and women's cross country, track and field, and men's soccer during transition periods.

She chaired the search committee for a head baseball coach and director of sports performance for Olympic sports. Fulton also played a key role in multiple head and assistant coaching searches.

"I'm grateful to Utah State Vice President and Director of Athletics Cameron Walker for giving me this opportunity," said Fulton. "I'm thrilled to be joining the team at Utah State and can't wait to get to Logan and Cache Valley to work with our student-athletes and coaches. It's an exciting time to help Utah State reach new heights as it joins the Pac-12, and I'm ready to get started."

She is a member of the 2025-26 NCAA Pathway Program Cohort, designed to prepare senior-level administrators for their next career step as athletics directors. From 2023-25, Fulton served on the NCAA Division I Track and Field and Cross Country Committee, chairing the 2025 NCAA DI Track and Field Championships.

A former VMI track and field student-athlete, she returned to VMI in 2021 after 18 months as director of operations for TCU's swimming and diving programs. At TCU, Fulton managed team travel logistics and budget oversight, assisted with on-campus recruiting, and contributed to the design and presentation of internal and external social media graphics.

She also served on the athletics culture committee and volunteered with the department's process and structure work group to support organizational strategy.

Before TCU, Fulton worked as an operations assistant for the Southern Conference from August 2018 to June 2019, helping plan and administer conference championships and leading the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee administrators meeting. Additional responsibilities included creative content development for social media platforms and support for marketing and promotional plans for conference championships.

Fulton earned a bachelor's degree in economics and business from VMI in 2018 and a master's degree in higher education leadership from TCU in 2021.
