LOGAN, Utah – Utah State gymnast Olivia Orengo has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, February 22. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
This is Orengo's first-ever America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week honor.
With their sponsorship of the student-athlete of the week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
Orengo, a sophomore from Rogers, Minnesota, won two event titles in helping Utah State score a season-high team score in its 196.325-194.950 Mountain West home win against Boise State last weekend. The 196.325 is the ninth-highest home score in program history. Against the Broncos, Orengo tied for first on bars with a score of 9.875 and won the balance beam with a score of 9.875. She also tied for fourth on floor with a score of 9.825.
On the season, Orengo ranks second in the Mountain West, ninth in the North Central Region and tied for 55th in the nation on bars with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.850. She is fifth in the MW and 22nd in the North Central Region on beam with an NQS of 9.800. She is eight in the MW and 30th in the North Central region on floor with an NQS of 9.820.

MEN'S BASKETBALL – Junior guard Mason Falslev (Benson, Utah) helped Utah State to a 1-1 Mountain West record last week with a 75-56 home win against Boise State and an 80-77 loss at Nevada. Against the Broncos, Falslev scored 17 points to go along with three rebounds, one assist and one steal, while shooting 7-of-14 from the floor, 1-of-2 from deep, and 2-of-4 at the free throw line. Against the Wolf Pack, he totaled 10 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals, shooting 4-of-10 from the field, 1-of-3 from 3-point range, and 1-of-4 at the free throw line. For the week, Falslev averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from the field, 40.0 percent (2-of-5) from 3-point range and 37.5 percent (3-of-8) at the free throw line.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Senior forward Rachel Wilson led the Aggies last week while averaging 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game during a pair of road losses at San Jose State (58-56) and Grand Canyon (63-43). Against the Spartans, Wilson recorded her first career double-double at the Division-I level with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Wilson shot 5-of-6 from the field and hit her first 3-pointer of the season in the contest while adding one block and one steal. Against the Lopes, Wilson scored a career-high 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and added eight rebounds, two steals and one block.
SOFTBALL – Senior catcher Grace Matej (Orangevale, California) led Utah State to a 2-3 showing at the Georgia Classic in Athens, Georgia, last week as the Aggies earned two wins over Seton Hall (W, 8-3; W, 3-1) with losses to No. 12 Georgia (L, 1-4; L, 2-11 (5)) and No. 20 Virginia Tech (L, 3-10). Matej began the week by going 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored against No. 20 Virginia Tech. In the first game against No. 12 Georgia, she went 1-for-4. In the first game against Seton Hall, she went 1-for-4 at the plate with one run scored. She then went 1-for-2 with a run scored in the second game against Georgia and closed out the week with a 1-for-3 performance with a base on balls against Seton Hall. In total, Matej hit .438 (7-for-16) on the week with two home runs, three RBIs, a base on balls and four runs scored. She had a .471 on base percentage and a .813 slugging percentage.
MEN'S TENNIS – Sophomore Roman Venger (Lviv, Ukraine) went 4-0 across singles and doubles play to help Utah State to a pair of home wins against Idaho State (6-1) and Weber State (7-0). Venger teamed with fellow sophomore Eliot Nobel in doubles play for a 6-3 victory in both matches to help the Aggies twice secure the doubles point. Against the Bengals, Venger then earned a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory at the third position to clinch the team win. Venger concluded his weekend with another straight sets win at No. 3 singles against the Wildcats, recording a 6-4, 6-3 win as the first Aggie to finish out singles action.
WOMEN'S TENNIS – Freshman Terezia Mlkva (Piestany, Slovakia) recorded a pair of victories across singles and doubles play during Utah State's 7-0 sweep at Texas-Rio Grande Valley. In doubles alongside sophomore Natalie Paterova, the duo recorded a 6-2 win at the second position to help secure the doubles point in the match. Mlkva then won her fifth-straight singles match, including her third in straight sets, recording a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot in the lineup.
