Gymnastics Competes at Air Force Tri Meet Friday

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State gymnastics (7-2, 3-0 MW) continues its 2026 season on Friday, Feb. 6, as it competes in the Air Force Tri Meet at 7 p.m. USU will face Mountain West-foe Air Force (7-3, 1-2 MW) along with Alaska (2-1, 0-0 MPSF). USU is ranked 27th in the nation in this week's Road to Nationals Poll.

Air Force will begin the meet on vault, Utah State will begin on bars, and Alaska will start on beam. USU's rotation will be bars, beam, floor, vault. The meet will be streamed live on the MW Network and live scoring will be available via Virtius.

UTAH STATE NOTES
Utah State's 7-2 start to the 2026 campaign is its best since the 1999 squad started with an 11-1 record. Overall, USU's 7-2 record is tied for the seventh-best start to a season in program history.

Utah State ranks first in the Mountain West and 27th in the nation heading into the fifth weekend of competition with an average team score of 195.600. USU ranks first in the MW and 20th in the nation on floor (49.085), first in the MW and 28th in the nation on bars (48.915), second in the MW and 32nd in the nation on vault (48.835), and second in the MW and 32nd in the nation on beam (48.765).

Individually, sophomore Olivia Orengo ranks second in the MW and 51st in the nation in the all-around (39.067). Junior Isabella Vater ranks second in the MW and 88th in the nation on floor (9.845), while freshman Anabelle Dewey ranks third in the MW and 91st in the nation on floor (9.844). Junior Nyla Morabito ranks seventh in the MW on vault (9.780). Sophomore Lundyn VanderToolen ranks third in the MW on bars (9.805). Junior Mya Witte ranks first in on beam (9.805).

MORABITO TIED FOR 10TH ALL-TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY IN VAULT TITLES
Junior Nyla Morabito has won six vault titles in her career, which is tied with Mikaela Meyer (2018-21) and Jessica Parenti-Otte (2003-07) for the 10th-most in program history. Morabito has already won three vault titles this year, which is one shy of entering the top 10 in program history for a single season.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Air Force ranks fourth in the Mountain West and 43rd in the nation with an average team score of 194.538. AFA ranks second in the MW and 35th in the nation on floor (48.869), second in the MW and 36th in the nation on bars (48.644), fourth in the MW and 43rd in the nation on vault (48.700), and fourth in the MW and 50th in the nation on beam (48.325).

Individually, junior Maggie Slife ranks first in the MW and 10th in the nation in the all-around (39.394). Slife ranks first in the MW and ninth in the nation on bars (9.906), first in the MW and 30th in the nation on floor (9.887), fourth in the MW and 79th in the nation on vault (9.819), and fourth in the MW on beam (9.781).

Alaska ranks 69th in the nation with an average team score of 190.142. UAA ranks 63rd in the nation on bars (47.475), 66th in the nation on beam (47.625), 75th in the nation on vault (47.433), and 77th in the nation on floor (47.608).

Individually, junior Claudia Lessig ranks fifth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) and 96th in the nation in the all-around (37.775). Junior Jamilia Duffus ranks 11th in the MPSF on bars (9.625), 16th in the MPSF on vault (9.650), and 17th in the MPSF on floor (9.633). Freshman Alexandra Karkowski ranks 12th in the MPSF on beam (9.683).

SERIES HISTORY
Utah State is 19-3 all-time against Air Force, including a 6-1 road record. USU posted a 195.350-194.225 neutral site win against the Falcons last weekend at the Boise State Quad Meet. USU is 7-0 all-time against Alaska, including a 4-0 home record. The last meeting between the Aggies and Seawolves was in Logan on March 3, 2023, with USU posting a 194.600-191.750 win.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah State scored a 195.350 to win the Boise State Quad Meet held inside ExtraMile Arena on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026. With the victory, USU improves to 7-2 on the season, including a 3-0 mark in Mountain West action. Boise State finished second with 195.250, followed by Air Force in third with 194.225 and Sacramento State placing fourth with 193.425.

Utah State began the meet on the bars and scored 48.725, followed by 48.625 on beam, a season-high 49.300 on floor and 48.700 on vault. Boise State scored 48.750 on vault, 48.675 on bars, 48.750 on beam and 49.075 on floor. Air Force scored 48.625 on vault, 48.200 on bars, 48.475 on beam and 48.925 on floor. Sacramento State scored 48.225 on vault, 48.550 on bars, 48.550 on beam and 48.100 on floor.

This is the best start to a season for Utah State since the 1999 squad started with an 11-1 record. Overall, it is tied for the seventh-best start to a season in program history.

Utah State posted three career-high and two more season-high scores on the night. Junior Nyla Morabito led Utah State with a pair of titles as she tied for first on beam with 9.825 and tied for first on vault with 9.800. Morabito has now won four titles this year with three on vault and one on beam. For her career, she has 13 titles with six on floor, six on vault and one on beam. Sophomore Olivia Orengo competed in the all-around for the third time this season and finished third in the meet with 39.000.

Utah State began the meet on bars and scored 48.725. Orengo paced Utah State here with a season-high-tying 9.850 to place second. Junior Sydney Jelen led off the rotation with 9.750 and sophomore Lundyn VanderToolen finished the rotation with 9.750. Senior Avery Bibbey scored 9.700 and freshman Charley Laufer scored 9.675.

Moving to beam for its second rotation, Utah State scored 48.625. Morabito led USU on this event with 9.825 to tie for first. Junior Mya Witte scored 9.800. Freshman Kaylie Medrano scored 9.750. Freshman Alianna Valdez scored 9.650. Orengo scored 9.600 and Jelen scored 9.575.

Once again, Utah State shined on floor and scored a season-best 49.300 on the event as the three Aggies notched career-highs and another a season-high. Orengo began the rotation with a season-high 9.850 and freshman Sienna Yelle followed with a career-high 9.850. Senior Chelsea Southam followed with a career-high-tying 9.875 and freshman Anabelle Dewey added a career-high of her own with 9.875. Junior Isabella Vater finished the rotation with 9.850. Southam and Dewey tied for second on the event with their scores.

Utah State concluded the meet on vault and scored 48.700. Morabito led USU with 9.800 to tie for first, while Valdez scored 9.775 to tie for third. Witte began the rotation with 9.725, followed by 9.700 from Orengo. Dewey followed with 9.525 and Southam scored 9.700.
