LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's golf team will travel to Fresno, California, to compete in The Watney Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, March 2-3, at the San Joaquin Country Club. This is USU's first tournament of the spring season.
Golfers will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (MT) on Monday and 9:15 a.m. (MT) on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
Along with the Aggies and host Fresno State, the 14-team field includes Cal Baptist, CSU Northridge, CS Fullerton, Idaho, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, Seattle, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, and Utah Valley.
Scheduled to compete for the Aggies is sophomore Noah Moody (Vineyard, Utah), sophomore Chase Goetschel (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.), freshman Zach Skinner (Providence, Utah), senior Luis Cantu (Monterrey, Mexico), and sophomore Toby Heider (Kimberly, Idaho).
Utah State competed in five tournaments last fall and posted a pair of top 10 placings, including a tie for sixth at the Air Force-hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. Goetschel led USU during the fall with a stroke average of 73.07 over 15 rounds. Moody had a stroke average of 73.20 over 15 rounds, followed by Cantu (73.78), Heider (74.80) and Skinner (75.20).
