LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis battled valiantly against Idaho but came up one point short in a 4-3 loss to the Vandals on Sunday at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.
 
Doubles 
The Aggies began the match with momentum as sophomore Maria Paula Ramos Garcia and freshman Chahd Tourkhani combined for a 6-1 victory at the third position of the doubles lineup. Shortly after, sophomore Natalie Paterova and freshman Sabina Pintea clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. At the top spot, senior Olivia Halvorsen and freshman Terezia Mlkva trailed, 4-3, but led 40-15 in a bid to tie the match before being abandoned.

Singles 
The Vandals responded in singles play with a pair of wins at the top two spots of the lineup to take a 2-1 lead for the match. Ramos Garcia then answered back for the Aggies, emerging victorious in a tiebreaker in the first set before dominating in the second for a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win at the fourth position. Tourkhani then returned the lead to USU with a dominant showing of her own at No. 5 singles in a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Idaho, however, came away with a three-set win at No. 3 singles before clinching the match with a win at the sixth position for the 4-3 victory.

Next Up
Utah State readies for the beginning of Mountain West play. The Aggies open conference action on the road at Wyoming on Friday, March 13, at 4 p.m. (MT), before also taking on Colorado State on Sunday, March 15, at 11 a.m. (MT).
