Women’s Tennis Sweeps Colorado State, 4-0

FORT COLLINS, Colorado - Utah State women's tennis scored an emphatic 4-0 win at Colorado State on Sunday afternoon at the Genesis Health Club, improving to 1-1 in Mountain West play and 7-5 overall.

Doubles 
Sophomore Natalie Paterova and freshman Sabina Pintea kicked off the match with a 6-3 win at the second position of doubles play. After the Rams responded with a 6-3 win over their own at the top spot, sophomore Maria Paula Ramos Garcia and freshman Chahd Tourkhani outlasted their Ram counterparts at No. 3 doubles for a 7-5 victory, securing the 1-0 lead for USU heading to singles play.

Singles 
Ramos Garcia extended the momentum for Utah State, earning the lone straight-sets win of the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles to double USU's lead. All five remaining matches were pushed to a full three sets. Pintea was the next Aggie to close out her match, dominating the third set at the second position for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory to put the Aggies up, 3-0.

At the top spot in the lineup, freshman Terezia Mlkva served up the clinching point, rebounding after a dropped first-set tiebreaker to win 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2. 

At the remaining positions, Paterova, Tourkhani and Sperry were all mired in third-set battles at the time the win was clinched and the matches left unfinished.

Next Up
Utah State returns to Cache Valley to begin a four-match home stand amid conference play, beginning against San Diego State on Friday, March 20, at 11 a.m. (MT) at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club. The Aggies will then take on Grand Canyon on Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m. (MT).
