LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's gymnastics team has been selected to compete in the Baton Rouge Regional, the NCAA announced Monday. The Baton Rouge Regional, hosted by LSU, will be held at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center from Wednesday, April 1 through Saturday, April 4, and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Utah State, who is ranked 26th in the nation, will compete against No. 7 Stanford, No. 10 Michigan and No. 22 North Carolina on Thursday, April 2 at noon MT.
The Aggies are competing in their 29th regional. USU's best finish at the NCAA Regionals was in 1999, when it hosted Georgia, Florida, Denver, Minnesota and Iowa State, and placed third.
On the other side of the bracket is No. 2 LSU, No. 15 Clemson, and No. 17 Auburn, along with the winner of No. 30 Air Force and No. 34 Nebraska who will meet in the first round on Wednesday, April 1.
The top two teams from each group will advance and compete against each another on Saturday, April 4, at 4 p.m. MT, with the top two teams from that final day of competition advancing to nationals, scheduled for April 16 & 18 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Utah State is ranked 26th in the nation with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 195.905. USU ranks 25th in the nation on beam with an NQS of 48.955, 26th in the nation on bars with an NQS of 48.982, 29th in the nation on floor with an NQS of 49.125, and 36th in the nation on vault with an NQS of 48.866.
In its last outing, Utah State captured its second-straight Mountain West Gymnastics Conference championship as the Aggies recorded a 196.400. USU also won the MW regular season title, giving them nine conference championships in program history.
Utah State set a school record during the MW Championships with its sixth-straight score of 196.000 or better. The previous school record of five straight meets at 196.000-plus was set in 2021. USU has scored 196.000 or better in seven meets this season.
Utah State is 19-5 on the season, which is the sixth-most wins in program history, and most since the 1986 team notched a 24-11 record.
Individually, junior Nyla Morabito ranks third in the MW and 73rd in the nation on vault with an NQS of 9.855. Junior Isabella Vater ranks third in the MW and 92nd in the nation on floor with an NQS of 9.880. Sophomore Lundyn VanderToolen ranks third in the MW and 95th in the nation on bars with an NQS of 9.860. Sophomore Olivia Orengo ranks fourth in the MW and 108th in the nation on bars with an NQS of 9.855. Junior Sydney Jelen and fellow junior Mya Witte both rank third in the MW and 91st in the nation on beam with an NQS of 9.860.
Utah State had six gymnasts earn first-team All-MW honors in Jelen (beam), Morabito (vault), Vater (floor), Witte (beam), Orengo (bars), and VanderToolen (bars). Jelen also earned second-team All-MW honors on bars.
