FRESNO, California – Utah State sophomore Chase Goetschel shot 7-over 220 and finished tied for 31st at the Fresno State-hosted Watney Invitational held here at the San Joaquin Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Nevada won the 14-team tournament with an evan par 852 (287-285-280). Utah State finished in 14th place at 51-over 903 (308-297-298). Seattle's Kevin Li took medalist honors as he tied with two other golfers at 4-under 209 (71-70-68) and then won in a playoff to claim the tournament title.
Goetschel began the tournament by carding an even par 71, followed by rounds of 3-over 74 and 4-over 75. Sophomore Noah Moody tied for 56th at 13-over 226 (79-74-73). Senior Luis Cantu tied for 60th at 15-over 228 (77-76-75). Sophomore Toby Heider tied for 62nd at 16-over 229 (81-73-75). Freshman Zach Skinner tied for 74th at 24-over 237 (82-78-77).
Utah State will continue its spring season on Monday and Tuesday, March 23-24, when it competes in the Minnesota-hosted Bell Bank "Pay it Forward" Collegiate at the Wigwam Golf Club in Peoria, Arizona.
