Gymnastics Ready for NCAA Regional

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State gymnastics will travel to Baton Rouge, La., and compete against No. 7 Stanford, No. 10 Michigan and No. 22 North Carolina in the NCAA Regional Second Round - Session I on Thursday, April 2, at noon MT.

Utah State is competing in its 29th NCAA Regional as a team and has qualified for the second round for the first time since 2022.

The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+ and live scoring will be available via Virtius.

Utah State will begin the meet on floor and finish on beam. Stanford will begin on vault, North Carolina will start on bars, and Michigan will begin on beam.

UTAH STATE NOTES
Utah State ranks first in the Mountain West and 26th in the nation with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 195.905. USU ranks first in the MW and 25th in the nation on beam with a NQS of 48.955, first in the MW and 26th in the nation on bars with an NQS of 48.982, first in the MW and 29th in the nation on floor with an NQS of 49.125, and second in the MW and 36th in the nation on vault with an NQS of 48.866.

Individually, junior Nyla Morabito ranks third in the MW and 73rd in the nation on vault with an NQS of 9.855. Junior Sydney Jelen and fellow junior Mya Witte both rank third in the MW and 91st in the nation on beam with an NQS of 9.860. Junior Isabella Vater ranks third in the MW and 92nd in the nation on floor with an NQS of 9.880. Sophomore Lundyn VanderToolen ranks third in the MW and 95th in the nation on bars with an NQS of 9.860.

UTAH STATE WINS 2026 MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPIONSHIP
Utah State won both the Mountain West regular season and postseason championships during the 2026 season, giving them nine conference titles in program history. USU also won the 2025 MW postseason championship, marking the first time ever it has claimed back-to-back conference championships.

The Aggies used tremendous performances on its final two rotations of the MW Championships as it posted its second-best beam score of the season with 49.200 and then recorded a season-high 49.350 on floor. USU opened the meet with 48.975 on vault, which is tied for its fourth-best score on the apparatus this year, and then notched 48.875 on bars. USU's 196.400 is its third-highest score of the season.

WITTE NAMED MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPIONSHIP MVP
Junior Mya Witte was named the Mountain West Championship MVP as she scored a career-high 9.950 to win the beam title, which is tied for the second-best beam score in program history. In fact, that 9.950 is one of the top eight beam scores in school history. Witte also scored a 9.700 on vault.

UTAH STATE CLAIMS THREE TITLES AT MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPIONSHIP
Utah State won three of the four event titles during the 2026 Mountain West Championships. Junior Mya Witte claimed the beam title with a career-high 9.950, which is tied for the second-highest beam score in school history. Freshman Mara Gruber won the floor title with a career-high-tying 9.900. Junior Nyla Morabito and sophomore Lundyn VanderToolen shared the vault title with scores of 9.850. VanderToolen and senior Avery Bibbey led the way for USU on bars with scores of 9.850 to tie for fourth.

VanderToolen has now claimed four titles in her career, including two on vault, both of which have been won this year. Overall, it is her third title of the season. For Witte, it is her third beam title this year and of her career. Gruber claimed her third floor title this year.

UTAH STATE SETS SCHOOL RECORD WITH SIXTH STRAIGHT SCORE OVER 196.000
Utah State has scored 196.000 or better seven times this year, including in each of its last six meets, to set the school record for most consecutive scores of 196.000 or better. The previous record was five set by the 2021 team. Overall, USU's seven team scores of 196.000 or better this year is tied with the 2021 and 2022 teams for the most in school history.

AGGIES HAVE SIXTH MOST WINS IN PROGRAM HISTORY
Utah State's 19 wins this season are the sixth-most in program history and most since the 1986 team notched a 24-11 record. USU's 16 regular season wins this year are tied for the fourth-most in program history and the most since 1986.

Utah State finished its home schedule with an 8-0 record, marking just the fourth time in the 49-year history of USU gymnastics that the program has posted an undefeated home campaign.

Utah State's 15-4 start to this season was the second-best in school history, trailing only the 1978 club that began that year with a 27-1 record.

MORABITO SETS SCHOOL RECORD WITH 10 VAULT TITLES THIS YEAR
Junior Nyla Morabito has won 10 vault titles this year, which is a school record, breaking the old mark of nine set by Michelle Pohl in 1983. For her career, Morabito has 22 titles (13 vault, 8 floor, 1 beam). Her 13 career vault titles are tied for the third-most in program history.

Morabito has won 13 titles this year (10 vault, 2 floor, 1 beam), which is the fifth-most by a junior in program history.

SERIES HISTORY WITH THE COMPETITION
Utah State is 5-10 all-time against Stanford, including a 2-9 record at neutral sites. The last meeting between the two programs was in 2024 with the Cardinal posting a 196.500-195.225 win. USU's last win in the series was in 2022 with a 196.350-195.725 victory.

Utah State is 2-3 all-time against Michigan, including a 2-1 record at neutral sites. The last meeting between the two programs was in 2018 with the Wolverines posting a 196.575-195.325 win. USU's last win in the series was in 1991. 

Utah State is 1-1 all-time against North Carolina, including a 1-0 record at neutral sites. The last meeting between the two programs was in 2024 with the Tar Heels posting a 193.725-193.175 home win. USU's last win in the series was in 1990.

LOOKING BACK AT THE 2025 NCAA REGIONAL
Utah State lost its NCAA Regional first round matchup with in-state rival BYU in Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 2, 2025, as the Aggies scored 194.475. BYU won the dual meet with a score of 195.950. USU, who overcame injuries to key contributors all year, suffered another setback against BYU as freshman Olivia Orengo fell during her vault routine and was unable to compete on floor or beam. USU had to adjust lineups on its last two events and was only able to compete five gymnasts on floor. USU began the meet on the bars and scored 48.950, followed by 48.825 on vault, 48.000 on floor and 48.700 on beam. BYU scored 48.950 on vault, 48.950 on bars, 49.075 on beam and 48.975 on floor.

Utah State had five individuals qualify for the second round of the 2025 NCAA Regionals in junior Nyla Morabito (vault, floor), senior Avery Bibbey (bars), junior Sydney Jelen (beam), and sophomore Lundyn VanderToolen (bars), along with Brianna Brooks (bars, beam). Jelen tied for 10th on beam with 9.850. Bibbey and VanderToolen notched bar scores of 9.825 and 9.800, respectively. Morabito did not compete do to a season-ending injury.

NEXT UP
If Utah State finishes in the top two of the first session of the NCAA Regional Second Round, it would advance to the NCAA Regional Final, which would be held on Saturday, April 4, at 4 p.m. (MT) on ESPN+. Teams competing in session 2 include No. 2 LSU, No. 15 Clemson, and No. 17 Auburn, along with the winner of No. 30 Air Force and No. 34 Nebraska who will meet in the first round on Wednesday, April 1.
