LOGAN, Utah — Utah State track and field student-athletes collected three Mountain West weekly honors, as announced by the league on Tuesday. Junior
Walker Deede won MW Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors, sophomore
Mathew Hall claimed MW Men's Track Athlete of the Week accolades and freshman
Blake Johns earned the MW Men's Freshman of the Week award.
Deede broke his own personal record by almost 13 feet as he posted a throw of 74.90 meters (245-9) in a dominating victory in the men's javelin at the USU-hosted Aggie Invitational this past weekend. On his second attempt, Deede set a personal best for the third time in four meets and moved into second place in both Utah State and MW history in the event, ranking only behind two-time USU All-American Sindri Gudmundsson. The two-time MW silver medalist leads the conference by over 22 feet and ranks as the 10th-best javelin thrower in the country.
Hall ran a blistering 46.19 in his second-career 400-meter race to beat the Aggie Invitational field and move into third in USU history in the event, 0.09 seconds behind two-time All-American Cole Lambourne. Hall topped his previous personal best by 1.68 seconds as he moved into second place in the MW and 29th in the NCAA West Region.
Johns set a personal best in the hammer by almost 10 feet with his throw of 56.80 meters (186-4) on Friday, moving into sixth place in the MW. He set another personal best on Saturday in the men's shot put, posting a mark of 15.51 meters (50-10.75). Johns leads all MW freshmen in the hammer and ranks second among conference freshmen in the shot put.
Deede, Hall and Johns each earned their first career MW weekly award. The three awardees joined freshmen
Henry Tait and
Karina Cooper among Aggie winners of the weekly accolades during the 2026 outdoor campaign. Combined with Utah State's 12 weekly accolades in the 2025-26 indoor season, the program has earned its most-ever conference awards, 17, in a single academic year.
Utah State will split its squad this week between the BYU Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah, from Wednesday-Saturday, April 29-May 2, and the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, California, on Friday, May 1.
