LOGAN, Utah – Utah State track and field sophomore Shay Jones has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, May 3. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

With their sponsorship of the student-athlete of the week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.

Jones ran the second leg of the women's 4x400-meter relay, breaking the Utah State record, and took second place in the 200 meters at the BYU Robison Invitational last week. Jones and her relay teammates clocked in at 3:36.87, besting the standard of 3:38.66 set by the 2025 squad of Jones, then-junior Alison Richter and then-seniors Adi Nielson and Emma Reeves. The team finished first in the race and now ranks second in the Mountain West. In the 200 meters, the Plano, Texas, native finished in second place in the invite section, crossing the line in a time of 23.57 that sits 0.01 seconds shy of her personal best that ranks third in Utah State history in the event.
