LOGAN, Utah – Utah State Athletics recorded its second-best finish ever in the Learfield Directors' Cup as it finished the 2025-26 season 85th in the nation, trailing only a 2017-18 finish of 78th for the best all-time in Aggie history. USU earned a total of 262.5 points, again trailing only the 2017-18 mark of 266.25 points for the highest total in school history.
"Congratulations to our outstanding student-athletes and coaches on a successful year," said Utah State Vice President and Director of Athletics
Cameron Walker. "This achievement reflects their dedication, hard work and commitment to excellence, which continue to drive our athletics department forward."
Utah State sits above four Power 4 institutions as USU finished ahead of Houston (88), Georgia Tech (90), Cincinnati (91) and Rutgers (93). The Aggies also finished ahead of six schools from the Big East and the entirety of the American Athletic Conference.
The Aggies earned their placement on the strength of nine conference championships, the most in school history for a single year.
Utah State volleyball and men's basketball were the two largest points-earners, each scoring 50 points as both recorded victories in the first round of the NCAA Tournament following sweeps of the Mountain West regular season and tournament trophies.
Gymnastics earned 45.5 points for their regular season and postseason MW titles, earning a berth in the NCAA Regional Championships. Men's outdoor track & field scored 42 points, paced by second-team All-American nods from Landon Bott and Walker Deede plus a national runner-up finish in the pole vault by Logan Hammer.
All three of football, soccer and men's tennis earned another 25 points for USU. Soccer claimed its third-consecutive MW Tournament championship to again reach the NCAA Tournament while men's tennis swept the MW regular season and tournament crowns to earn its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018. Utah State football qualified for a bowl game for the fourth time in five years and 12th in the last 15, playing in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
The placement continues an upwards trend as USU has finished higher in the Learfield Directors' Cup than the previous year every year since 2022-23. The Aggies finished 104th in 2024-25, 136th in 2023-24 and 144th in 2022-23.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
