Indoor: Placed seventh in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 15.84 meters (51-11.00) at the Mountain West Indoor Championships… Set a career-best mark in the discus of 49.07 meters (161-0) to place third at the BYU Invitational, where he also finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 15.10 meters (49-6.50)… Placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 15.11 meters (49-7.00) at the Utah State-hosted Speed and Power Meet… Finished seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 15.72 meters (51-7.00) at the Idaho State-hosted Stacy Dragila Invitational… Placed 26th in the weight throw with a mark of 15.53 meters (50-11.50) at the New Mexico-hosted Don Kirby Elite Invitational.
Outdoor: Placed sixth in the discus with a mark of 51.77 meters (169-10) at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships… Recorded a season-best throw of 51.96 meters (170-5.75) in the discus to finish fourth at the BYU-hosted Robison Invitational… Placed seventh in the hammer with a mark of 48.46 meters (159-0) at the Arizona-hosted Willie Williams Classic, where he also finished third in the discus with a mark of 48.84 meters (160-3)… Placed third in the discus with a mark o 50.25 meters (164-10) at the Utah State-hosted Aggie Invitational… Finished third in the discus with a heave of 50.19 meters (164-8) at the Stanford Invitational… Placed 23rd in the discus with a mark of 51.53 meters (169-0) at the Long Beach Invitational… Recorded a mark of 52.91 meters (173-7) in the discus to finish eighth at the Fresno State Invitational... Earned Academic All-MW honors and was named a Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete.

2021 (SR)
Indoor: Season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Outdoor: Placed 38th in the first round of the discus with a heave of 51.90 meters (170-3) at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships… Finished fourth in the discus (53.96 meters/177-0) and eighth in the hammer (51.36 meters/168-6) at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships… Won the discus at both the Stanford Invitational and Oklahoma-hosted Sooner Invitational & Multis with marks of 53.83 meters (176-7) and 53.24 meters (174-8), respectively… Placed fifth in the discus with a career-best throw of 54.29 meters (178-1) at the Fresno State-hosted West Coast Relays… Finished ninth in the shot put with a mark of 15.21 meters (49-11) at the BYU-hosted Robison Invitational… Earned academic all-MW and MW Scholar-Athlete honors.

2020 (JR)
Indoor: Placed fifth in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 16.05 meters (52-8.00) at the Mountain West Indoor Championships, where he also finished 10th in the weight throw with a heave of 15.90 meters (52-2.00)… Set career-best mark of 16.69 meters (54-9.25) in the weight throw at the New Mexico-hosted Don Kirby Elite Invitational… Best finish of the season came at the Boise State-hosted Ed Jacoby Invitational, where he placed third in the weight throw with a mark of 16.11 meters (52-10.25)… Recorded six top-10 finishes during the season... Earned academic all-MW honors.

2019 (SO)
Indoor: Placed ninth in the shot put with a mark of 14.88 meters (48-10) and 13th in the weight throw with a mark of 15.04 meters (49-4.25) at the Mountain West Indoor Championships… Finished fourth in the shot put with a season-best heave of 14.93 meters (48-11.75) at the Boise State-hosted Bronco Challenge… Placed ninth in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 15.39 meters (50-6) at the Boise State-hosted Jackson’s/Nike Boise Indoor Invitational.
Outdoor: Placed 39th in the discus with a mark of 51.61 meters (169-4) at the NCAA Outdoor West Prelims… Finished sixth in the discus (50.95 meters/167-2), eighth in the hammer (51.28 meters/168-3) and 10th in the shot put (14.17 meters/46-6) at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships… Placed fourth in the hammer with a career-best throw of 52.91 meters (173-7) at the Utah Valley Invitational… Recorded career-best mark of 15.32 meters (50-3.25) in the shot put at the BYU-hosted Clarence Robison Invitational, where he placed 10th in the event… Captured the discus title with a mark of 51.51 meters (169-0) at the Utah State-hosted Aggie Invitational.

2018 (FR)
Indoor: Did not compete during the season.
Outdoor: Placed eighth in the finals of the discus with a season-best throw of 54.27 meters (178-0) at the USA Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships… Finished 10th in the discus with a mark of 47.60 meters (156-2) and 11th in the hammer with a season-best heave of 49.15 meters (161-3) at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships… Recorded season-best mark of 13.20 meters (43-3.75) in the shot put at the UC Irvine-hosted Spring Collegiate Classic… Placed in the top 10 in the discus in all eight meets he competed in… Earned academic all-MW accolades.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was an eight-time letterwinner at Yokota (Fussa, Japan) High School in three sports… Recorded personal bests in the discus (58.04 meters), shot put (15.45m) and weight throw (15.27m) as a senior… Was the Far East champion in the discus and shot put as a sophomore and junior to help lead his school to the Division 2 Far East championships… Also competed for the SPIRE Academy club team… Played offensive line on the football team for three years and was a three-time KPASSP All-Star and a two-time Far East All-Star… Wrestled for one year… Graduated with a 4.2 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society and earned a Dean’s Scholarship at Utah State.

PERSONAL: Son of Dale and Katherine Sonnenberg… Has two sisters… Grew up on Yokota Air Force Base in Fussa, Japan… Majoring in data analytics.
