Dave Scholz is in his sixth season as Utah State’s Strength and Conditioning head coach and in his ninth year overall with the athletics department.
Scholz came to Utah State after spending the 2012 season in the National Football League as a strength, nutrition and conditioning assistant with the San Francisco 49ers. In that position, Scholz was responsible for the programming for quarterbacks and kickers, as well as all the nutritional aspects of the team, including meal planning. Scholz spent the 2011 season as the 49ers strength and conditioning intern.
Prior to joining the 49ers, Scholz served as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Utah State for three years (2008-10), where he assisted in all matters of football and served as the head of sports nutrition. He also was the lead strength and conditioning coach for softball and volleyball.
From 2006-08, Scholz was a graduate assistant at Utah State, where he worked alongside current Minnesota Vikings and former 49ers and USU head strength and conditioning coach Mark Uyeyama. During the summer of 2006, Scholz was a strength and conditioning intern at Arizona State.
Scholz has earned his CSCS Certification from the NSCA, Precision Nutrition Certification, ISSA Sports Nutrition Certification, BioSignature Modulation, PICP Levels I & II Certification, Metabolic Analytics Certification, Kinetic Chain Enhancement Upper and Lower Body Certification, and Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist Certification (FRCms).
Scholz, who played football at Wisconsin Eau Claire from 2002-03, was also a national level powerlifter at the 275-pound class. He earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise fitness from Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2004, and went on to earn his master’s degree from Utah State in health, physical education and recreation in 2008.
Scholz is married to the former Kara Krupski.
