Brandon Ubel

Brandon Ubel is in his second year as a graduate manager on the men's basketball staff after recently finishing a professional basketball career with teams in Belgium and France.

Ubel’s final stop was with Boulazac Basket Dordogne, a team in Boulazac, France, helping the squad to a runner-up finish in the French Cup during the 2017-18 season. Ubel spent most of his professional career in Belgium, playing for Brussels from 2013-14, the Antwerp Giants from 2014-15, and then returning to Brussels from 2015-17. During his time in Belgium, Ubel earned a pair of all-league honors.

Ubel was a standout at the University of Nebraska, suiting up the Huskers from 2010-13 and appearing in 125 games, the seventh-most in school history. During his senior year, Ubel averaged 16 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in his final Big Ten Tournament run, leading Nebraska to the conference quarterfinals for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

Ubel scored in double figures in 11 of 13 non-conference games during his senior year, including opening the year with a bang with a career-high 21 points and a then-career-high of 12 rebounds against Southern. Ubel was at his best at the free throw line, where he shot 80.2 percent for his career to finish fifth all time in school history.

Ubel played under current head coach Craig Smith for a year at Nebraska, when Smith was an assistant coach with the Huskers. Ubel was also at Nebraska when the team made the transition from the Big 12 to the Big 10, playing two years in each conference. In Ubel’s final two years with the Huskers, he played against the likes of current NBA players Tristan Thompson, Cody Zeller, Draymond Green and Victor Oladipo.

Ubel is anticipated to help in the day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball program, while pursuing a master’s degree.
