Mahacek (pronounced muh-hah-sek) is entering his first season at Utah State, coaching throws, jumps, and combined events.
Before USU, Mahacek spent the 2025-26 season at Idaho State, where he served as the sprints, hurdles, and multis coach. During his lone season in Pocatello, Mahacek coached six all-Big Sky Conference performances and one conference champion, leading four multi-event athletes to six point-scoring finishes at the Big Sky Indoor and Outdoor Championships. He guided 26 student-athletes to the Bengals’ top-10 leaderboards during the season, adding school records in the men’s 60m, 4x100m, and 4x400m.
During his athletic career, Mahacek competed at Washington State and Michigan. He set WSU’s heptathlon record in 2024 and earned All-American Honorable Mention honors for the indoor season. He is a two-time USATF Championship qualifier and holds top-10 scores in Michigan’s heptathlon and decathlon leaderboards. After breaking Michigan’s freshman heptathlon record, he went on to lead the team in seven different events over the course of his career, capped by a fourth-place finish in the decathlon at the Big 10 Championships in 2023.
Hailing from Grand Haven, Michigan, Mahacek earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Michigan in 2023 before pursuing a master’s degree in environmental & natural resource sciences from Washington State in 2025.
