Tyler Thomas is in his first year with Utah State Athletics as the department’s Director of Performance Nutrition. He was hired in August, 2026.
Thomas joins Utah State after spending the past three years (2023-26) as the Director of Performance Nutrition for Football at Washington State. Prior to that, he served one year as the Performance Dietitian for the Cougars' track and field/cross country, swimming, rowing and golf programs.
Before his time at Washington State, Thomas spent one year as a Sports Nutrition Fellow at the Drexel University Center for Nutrition and Performance and one year as a Nutrition Assistant II at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Sheridan, Wyoming. At Drexel, he gained experience working with professional athletes with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Thomas also served as a sports nutrition graduate assistant at Utah State for one year from August of 2022 to May of 2023.
Thomas earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Montana State-Northern in 2009 before completing a second bachelor's degree in dietetics from Northern Colorado in 2017. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in sport nutrition at Utah State.
A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Thomas completed a sports dietetics emphasis and dietetic internship at Lipscomb University, where he accumulated more than 400 hours of direct experience working with collegiate student-athletes. His responsibilities included individualized nutrition counseling, team education sessions, sports nutrition programming, foodservice management, catering operations, educational resource development and social media outreach.
In addition to his collegiate experience, Thomas gained extensive clinical training through Tennova Healthcare, where he worked in clinical foodservice, acute and critical care, chronic disease management, and both inpatient and outpatient nutrition education. He also completed community nutrition rotations in schools, wellness centers, private organizations and food banks.
Thomas holds the Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) credential, is a state of Utah Certified Dietitian, and maintains First Aid/CPR certification, reflecting his commitment to providing evidence-based nutrition care while promoting the health, safety and performance of student-athletes.
