LOGAN, Utah - - USU's women's soccer team fell to UC Irvine 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Tower Field. The loss drops the Aggies to 3-9 on the year (1-2 in conference) while the Anteaters move to 9-3-2 overall (4-1 in conference).

"We have got to come out and be pumped up," said head coach Stacey Enos. "Our pre-game was not inspirational. We didn't seem enthused and I thought we came out with some reservations."

Utah State opened the game playing tentativly and UC Irvine used that to its advantage and scored in the 10th minute of play. UCI freshman Lachelle Manzano found the net from 15 feet out on a dead center shot at the 9:10 mark. Utah State battled and got off six shots on goal in the first half but could not score and went into the half trailing 1-0. During the second half USU came out more aggressive and the teams held each other scoreless for 35 minutes. Senior Jayme Gordy (Cheyenne, Wyo.) broke open the scoring at 81:47 as she headed in a ball off a corner kick from sophomore Katie Seaman (Taylorsville, Utah) to tie the game. The game did not remain tied for long as UCI's Ariana Downs headed in a shot of her own from five feet out off a pass from Melody Mangrallo at 82:57 to give the Anteaters the win.

"I liked that we scored with ten minutes left," said head coach Stacey Enos. "I am bummed that we let them score, that goal was preventable."

Utah State returns to action next week when it travels to California for a two-game road trip against UC Santa Barbara Fri., Oct. 20 and Cal Poly Sun., Oct. 22.
