LOGAN, Utah - It took double overtime but the Utah State women's soccer team ended a six-game losing streak defeating Pacific 2-1 Friday afternoon at Tower Field. The win marked the first time USU has defeated UOP since the programs beginning in 1996. Utah State climbs to 4-11 on the season (2-4 in conference) while Pacific moves to 8-7-2 overall (3-4-1 in conference).
Utah State was the first team to break open the days scoring as junior Carrie Niederhauser scored from 10-yards out off a pass from senior Ashley Cracroft at 20:14. Niederhauser's goal was her first of the season and the seventh of her career. Pacific responded 20 minutes later when Gabby Olivares tied the game at 39:33 on a shot into the right corner of the net.
The second half was a battle of wills with Utah State getting off three shots on goal and Pacific turning in five shots. Neither team could convert its efforts and the game remained tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes of play.
In wasn't until the second overtime period that the game was finally decided. Sophomore Jessica Ebner scored the Aggies game-winning goal at the 114:12 mark to give the USU its first victory in almost a month.
Utah State will host Long Beach State in its final home game of the season Sunday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.
