LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Emmett White set an NCAA record with 578 all-purpose yards and scored his fourth touchdown with 28 seconds left as Utah State beat New Mexico State 44-37 on Saturday night.

White had 322 yards on the ground, 134 receiving and 122 on returns. The previous record was 435, set by Central Michigan's Brian Pruitt against Toledo in 1994.

New Mexico State (3-6, 1-2 Big West) tied it at 37 on K.C. Enzminger's 46-yard touchdown pass to P.J. Winston with 55 seconds remaining.

On the following possession, White, who had been averaging 214 all-purpose yards, broke free for a 52-yard run to the New Mexico State. On the next play, he rushed for the game-winner.

Utah State (5-4, 4-0) took a 7-0 lead on Jose Fuentes' 5-yard TD pass to Marshall Sanders. New Mexico State tied it on Kenton Keith's 50-yard touchdown run.

Utah State took a 14-7 lead on White's first score, a 6-yard run. In the third quarter, White scored on a 3-yard run to put Utah State up 29-24.
