LOGAN, Utah - - Utah State's women's soccer team was shutout 2-0 by UNLV Thursday afternoon in its season opener.
The Aggies dominated play throughout the first half, outshooting the Rebels 8-2. Despite the eight shots USU could not capitalize on the opportunities and the first half ended with both teams remaining scoreless.
In the second half Utah State came out less aggressive and UNLV took advantage of the situation. Sophomore Cosette Joffs scored the Rebels' first goal during the 55:00 minute of play. UNLV didn't let up as junior Jessica Chavez scored the Rebels second goal just six minutes later on a dead center shot from 10-yards out.
"I think we came out flat in the second half," said head coach Stacey Enos. "We're disappointed because I thought we dominated the first half. We've had a problem getting numbers in the box and today it came back to haunt us that we didn't put a goal in during the first half."
USU returns to action Monday, Sept. 4 when they take on Iowa in the final home game before embarking on the seasons' first road trip. Monday's game will be played at Tower Field and is set to begin at 11 a.m.
