CHENEY, Wash. - - USU's women's soccer team could not keep the win streak alive as it was shutout 1-0 by Eastern Washington Saturday afternoon. Utah State falls to 3-6 on the season and the Eagles climb to 5-6 overall.
In the first period of play Utah State outshoot Eastern Washington seven to five. Despite USU's seven attempts at a score Utah State never found net as EWU's goalkeeper recorded six saves. Senior goalkeeper Michaela Hawes (St. George, Utah) prevented the Eagles from scoring in the first period as she recorded three saves and took the Aggies into the half tied at 0-0.
The game did not remain scoreless for long when six minutes into the second period EWU's Jessica Fransen scored an unassisted goal off a kick into the upper right middle of the net at 51:37. Utah State took four more shots at the net but couldn't capitalize and finished the game scoreless.
Next Utah State returns home to take on in-state rival Weber State, Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.
