LOGAN, Utah - - Utah State lost a heartbreaker to Iowa 2-1 Monday afternoon at Tower Field. The loss drops the Aggies to 0-2 on the season while Iowa remains undefeated with a perfect 4-0 record.

"I'm proud of them," said head coach Stacey Enos. "We had our opportunities and we didn't capitalize on them today, but I'm pleased that we played hard for ninety minutes."

Iowa came out of the starting blocks quickly as senior Kate Walse knocked in a goal from four-yards out at the 16:32 mark. Assisting on the goal was junior Linzy Wolman and sophomore Julie Atkocaitis. Iowa did not let up on offense scoring its second goal when junior Stephanie Lynch brought the ball 20-yards down field off a pass from senior Sarah Kiefer for a dead center shot into the back of the net.

USU rebounded quickly as senior Jayme Gordy (Cheyenne, Wyo.) booted in her first goal of the regular season off a penalty kick in the 32:00 minute of play.

The second half proved to be a battle of will with Iowa coming out on top. Both teams were in scoring positions several times but could not convert the shots leaving both teams scoreless in the final 45 minutes of play.

This week the Aggies face a challenging road trip as they travel to Lexington, Ky. to play 1999 NCAA second round qualifier Kentucky Friday, Sept. 8 at 5:30 p.m., and Indiana Sunday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m.
