LAS VEGAS, Nev. -
At the regional tournament held at the UNLV campus, the Utah State men's tennis team saw two players finish strong in consolation play. Andy Madersbacher and Jason Trask represented the Aggies and advanced through the consolation tournament, which ended Saturday night. Madersbacher made it to the fifth round, while Trask played until the third round, before being eliminated from the tournament.
Madersbacher beat New Mexico's Joe Stotland in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in the fourth round of consolation play. Madersbacher then advanced to the fifth round to play New Mexico State's Luis Avila. Madersbacher lost the match 6-1, 6-2 and ended his run at the consolation title.
Meanwhile, teammate Trask lost in the third round of consolation play to New Mexico's John Kowalski 6-4, 7-5.
This concludes the men's tennis preseason. In the preseason players compete as individuals rather than as a team. In January, the men's tennis team will begin the regular season and start competing for team scores. The season kicks off Jan. 16, 2002 in Pocatello, Idaho against Idaho State University.
