Aggie Men's Tennis Plays At BYU Invitational

PROVO, Utah - The Utah State men's tennis team faced off in the first day of a four-day invitational held at Brigham Young University. In the first round of play, the Aggies saw three singles victories, as well as one in doubles action.

In singles play, Jason Trask opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-2 win over independent Marc Lindley. Trask then faced Mahmoud Rezk of Boise State and lost, 6-3, 6-2. Team leader Andy Madersbacher won both his singles match and doubles contest. Madersbacher defeated Jonathan Engelbreccht of the University of Utah 6-4, 6-2. Jordan Butler also posted a victory, defeating BYU's Jeff Olsen in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles, Madersbacher and Clayton Thomas advanced to the second round with a 9-8 win over Weber State's Ivanov/Novaccanu. Last week Madersbacher, then paired with teammate Jordan Butler, beat the same Weber State duo in the opening round by a score of 8-5.

The invitational, which ends Saturday, Oct. 6, includes players from BYU, Boise State, Utah, Weber State and Utah State. This invitational is the second tournament the Aggies have participated this preseason. Last weekend they opened the preseason in the Weber State Invitational. The action continues tomorrow afternoon in Provo.
