LONG BEACH, Calif.- Utah State's soccer team lost its Big West Conference opener 3-1 to Long Beach State Friday afternoon. The loss drops the Aggies to a 3-5-1 record, 0-1-0 in league play. With the win, the 49ers clinched their second win of the season and improved to 2-5-1, 1-0-0.

LBSU's Allison Wiegand scored first, just three minutes into the game. Aggie defender Jessica Ebner, assisted by Amber Tracy, knocked in USU's only goal 11 minutes later. Kristin Travis, the 49er's point leader, posted Long Beach's second goal ten minutes before the half, while teammate Becky Ricci knocked in the final goal for LBSU 20 minutes into the second half.

USU took 14 shots in the game, Long Beach took 16. Aggie goalkeeper Tracy Brady recorded seven saves, while 49er goalkeeper Jihal Elgazzar posted five. LBSU played a physical contest, racking up 10 fouls. USU had only two fouls.

The Aggies will look to record their first conference win when they play the University of California at Irvine on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Anteaters are 3-3 on the season and are led by sophomore Hayley McNallan, who has knocked in three goals this year.
