LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's volleyball team improved to 17-9 overall and 11-5 in the Big West Conference with a three-game sweep of UC Irvine Saturday with scores of 30-28, 30-19 and 30-16. The Anteaters fell to 3-22 overall and 1-15 in league play with the loss.
Individually, sophomore Erin Cartwright had a match-high 17 kills and hit .438 in the match. Senior Michelle Matheson had 14 kills and hit .385. Heather Olmstead recorded 15 digs moving her to second place on the USU all-time career digs list. Olmstead also hit .500 on the night, with six kills and no attack errors.
Senior Chelsi Neves posted 38 assists, moving her just 36 shy of third place on the career assists list.
"We started slowly, but came around," said head coach Burt Fuller. "It's important for us not to overlook Monday's game at Irvine and just concentrate on Tuesday at (No. 1) Long Beach State."
As a team, Utah State hit .338 in the match and held UC Irvine to a .135 hitting percentage.
The Aggies will play at UC Irvine Monday, Nov. 19, and are at Long Beach State on Tuesday. LBSU swept Utah State Thursday night in Logan. The 49ers are 16-0 in the Big West and 23-0 overall.
