LOGAN, Utah - Utah State head soccer coach Jen Kennedy Croft announced the addition of three signees to the Aggie soccer team. It is the first recruiting class for the new Aggie coach.
Among the three players are Heather Arnell, a three-time first-team all-state forward from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, as well as Melissa Baggaley, a defender from Brighton High School in Salt Lake City, Utah and Megan Mills, a goalie from Alta High School in Sandy, Utah.
Arnell earned all-state honors in 1998, 1999 and 2000 and was also a member of the honor roll. As a senior, she recorded 13 goals and 17 assists. In addition to soccer, she also played basketball at Davis.
"Heather is tenacious and has an eye for the goal," Kennedy Croft said. "Plus she has great speed. The combination of those things will make her a great college player."
Baggaley was a four-year starter as a defender at Brighton and was a member of the school's state championship team. She also played on club teams which won state championships in 1999 and 2000.
"We are looking at her as a defender and we are very excited because she is versatile and is another player with speed," Kennedy Croft said.
Mills, a goalie from Alta, was a member of the 1999 state championship team. She also played on a club team which won three state titles. She was also a member of the school's honor roll.
"Megan is big time," said Aggie assistant coach Brent Anderson. "She is going to need some training to get used to the college game, but once she gets into it, she will be a great goalie for us. She has great height and great reactions and will be a leader on the field."
Utah State is looking to add to this year's recruiting class in the next few weeks.
"We have a solid corps as players, but also as student athletes," Kennedy Croft said. They are great people."
