LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Utah State's men's tennis team won its second straight match defeating Idaho State 4-3 to place fifth at the UNLV Invitational here on Sunday. The Aggies improved to 2-4 on the season with its second victory in as many days. USU's win avenged a 5-2 loss to Idaho State earlier this spring.

USU captured the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches and then split the six singles matches to earn the narrow victory. Individual winners for USU included Andy Madersbacher, Ryan Burbidge and Dan Baird.

Madersbacher won a tough match against ISU's Simmo Summer, 7-6, 7-5. Burbidge posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at number four singles and Baird cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six singles.

Baird and Burbidge combined to win the number three doubles match, while Madersbacher teamed with Clayton Thomas to win their doubles match in an extra game 9-8.

USU's previous scores in the tournament, included a 7-0 loss to host and eventual champion UNLV and a 6-1 win vs. Nevada-Reno. Other tournament scores from Sunday included UNLV defeating Colorado 4-3 for the championship, Texas-Arlington beating Northern Arizona 5-1 for third place and Nevada-Reno defeating Weber State 5-2 for seventh place.

The Aggies will return to action on Feb. 28 when they host Weber State at 1:30 p.m. at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club in Logan, Utah.
