OREM, Utah - Utah State's softball team dropped both games of its double-header against BYU Wednesday at Utah Valley State College. The Aggies were shutout 8-0 in the first game and lost 11-1 in the second game of the day. The two losses drop the Aggies to 4-18 on the season, while BYU improves to 17-15 overall.

In game one BYU pitcher Maryon DeWitt-Wallentine pitched a no-hitter in five innings against USU. DeWitt-Wallentine struck out six of the sixteen batters she faced and improved to 8-9 this season.

The Cougars got on the board in the second inning when Becca Erickson ripped a 2 RBI triple. The next two batters struck out and grounded out, respectively to end the inning. BYU scored its final six runs in the fourth inning on five hits and one Aggie error. Angie Christiansen and Kari Pringle both recorded doubles in the inning.

Behind 10 hits and four errors by Utah State, BYU topped the Aggies 11-1 in the second game of the double-header. USU had just one hit, a double by freshman Casey Smith, in five innings of action. Smith eventually scored, after advancing to third on a passed ball and scoring on a sacrifice fly by freshman Shannon Acevedo, to take a 1-0 lead.

The Aggies lead would not last long as Brigham Young exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the first. BYU had eight hits in the inning, including a grand slam over the left field wall by Becca Erickson.

The Cougars scored their ninth run in the second inning on a single shot to centerfield by Oli Keohohou. BYU did not let up and scored its last two runs in the third on a 2 RBI single by Brook Cadiente.

Utah State will begin Big West Conference action this weekend when it travels to Cal State Northridge for a three game series with the Matadors Sat-Sun., March 24-25. USU will play a double-header Saturday and then return for a single game on Sunday. Games on both days will begin at 1 p.m.
