NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Utah State's softball team stopped a four-game losing streak by posting a come-from-behind 3-2 victory at Cal-State Northridge on Sunday. With the win the Aggies improved to 5-20 overall and 1-2 in Big West Conference play, while Northridge fell to 17-14, 2-1.
Northridge struck first scoring a run in the first and adding another in the third inning to lead 2-0. However USU rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game and then posted the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.
The Aggies touched Summer Richardson for six hits in four innings and former Utah pitcher Sarah Farnworth for three more hits and did not commit a error for the first time in six games en route to the victory. In all, seven different USU players recorded hits, including two by Shannon Acevedo and Danielle Rodriguez.
USU pitcher Kristin Hommel recorded her first victory in 11 decisions this season as she allowed just five hits in her complete-game win.
Utah State will open its home season on Saturday, March 31 with a double-header against Long Beach State at 1 p.m. The same two teams will return to Aggie field on Sunday, April 1 for a single game at 1 p.m.
