Utah State's softball dropped both games of its double-header against Long Beach State at the LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field Saturday. The Aggies were outscored 7-3 in the first game and shutout 5-0 in game two. USU is now 5-22 overall and 1-4 in Big West action. Long Beach State improved to 16-19 on the year and a perfect 5-0 in conference action.

Game one saw Long Beach State take the early lead as Nicole Spencer hit a pair of RBI singles to centerfield to bring in the 49ers first two runs. In the fourth inning the 49ers doubled their lead bringing around two runs on one hit and one Utah State error. With the Aggies remaining scoreless Long Beach State nearly put the game out of reach for USU in the sixth. LBSU scored its last three runs on three hits, including a 2 RBI double by Jamie Farnworth.

Utah State staged a comeback in the bottom of the sixth but it would not be enough in the end. USU drove in three runs on four hits and one 49er error. Junior SS Heather Curtis blasted a single to centerfield to bring in two runs, while junior C Breanne Nickle hit a single up the middle to drive in the Aggies final run.

Led by Darcey Brown's two two-run homeruns Long Beach State shutout the Aggies 5-0 in the second game of the day. Utah State had several scoring opportunities but could not get a runner across the plate as it twice left two runners in scoring position stranded on base.

"We need to have timely hits," said head coach Pam McCreesh. "When there is no one on we are hitting the ball hard and hitting the ball well. Yes they are a young team but we are almost 30 games into the season and that becomes not an excuse anymore."

Utah State will return to action Sunday, April 1 to close out the three-game series with Long Beach State at 1 p.m. on the LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field.
