LOGAN, Utah - Brigham Young snapped up its second double-header win of the season against the Utah State softball team Wednesday at the LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field. The Aggies were shutout 8-0 in the first game and then followed with a 4-1 loss in the game two. Previously this season the Cougars took both games of a double-header with the Aggies down in Provo.

BYU pitcher Maryon DeWitt-Wallentine pitched a two-hit shutout while striking out three batters in the opening game of the afternoon. Aggies recording hits in the game included juniors Breanne Nickle and Heather Curtis.

The Cougars score one run in the first inning and were held scoreless for the next three innings before exploding in the fifth, knocking in seven runs. Highlights from the inning included a homerun by lead-off-batter Becca Erickson and a three RBI triple by Jackie Ellis.

Utah State recorded eight hits to the Cougars three in the second game but could not manage to get enough runs across the plate and dropped the second game of the day to BYU. Brigham Young recorded three runs in the first inning to take the early lead. The Cougars added their final run in the fourth when Lindsay Hodgen-Kelly stole home with two outs.

Catcher Breanne Nickle responded with a solo homerun into dead center as the lead-off batter in the bottom of the fourth inning. Unfortunately the Aggies could not gain momentum from Nickle's bomb and remainder scoreless the rest of the game.
