Two Tennis Players Earn All-Big West Honors

LOGAN, Utah - For the second consecutive year, Utah State's Andy Madersbacher was named second-team all-Big West Conference it was announced by the league office. In addition, Madersbacher and his doubles partner Clayton Thomas were named second-team all-league in doubles.

Madersbacher, a senior from Kramsach, Austria, posted a 12-11 overall record during the 2000-2001 season, which included a 6-3 mark in fall tournaments and a 6-8 record in spring match play. Madersbacher was once again, USU's number one singles player and his 12 wins were the most by an Aggie this year.

Madersbacher and Thomas, a sophomore from Sandy, Utah, teamed up at number one doubles for the Aggies during the past season and went 5-13 overall, including a 4-11 in spring play. Thomas saw limited time in singles play, posting a 1-5 overall record, but found his niche in doubles action.

Pacific, which won the Big West Championship, featured the league player of the year in Dietrich Haug as well as the coach of the year in Guido Baumann. In all seven individuals were named first team singles players, while eight more were named to the second team. Both the first and second-team doubles teams featured four groups of players.

Utah State finished the year with a 5-10 record and tied for fifth at the league championships after losing to Boise State in the opening round of the tournament.
