UTAH STATE NOTCHES SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON
LOGAN, Utah- Utah State's women's soccer team handed Idaho State its first loss of the season as the Aggies defeated the Bengals 4-1 on Friday, Sept. 21. The victory improves USU's record to 2-2-1, while ISU is now 3-1-1 on the season.
Junior Brigid Turner scored first for the Aggies, knocking in a goal six minutes into the game. Sophomore Amber Tracy put two more points on the board for Utah State, as she scored two times in a row. Tracy's pair of goals came within one minute of each other. ISU's lone goal was knocked in by Stacey Peterson in the second half. Aggie Michelle Eversman kicked in one final goal with fifty seconds remaining in the game.
Aggie goalkeeper Tracy Brady did not allow any goals in her forty-five minutes of work. Megan Mills came in at the half, posted four saves, and allowed only one goal. USU took ten shots in the game, while Idaho State took twelve. All but two of the 25 Aggies on the team played in the match.
Head coach Jen Kennedy Croft said she would have liked to have seen a shut-out, but is very pleased with the win.
"If we would have had a shut-out, that would have been even more of an ego boost. But, if we score four and they score three, I'm feeling pretty good. It [the win] gave us a lot of confidence and, going into Wyoming, we feel good. To score four goals is huge, so anytime that we're hitting the back of the net that many times, we're feeling confident."
Utah State's next opponent is Wyoming. USU is 1-1 all-time against the Cowgirls. Wyoming currently holds a 1-2-1 record, but has a game against Weber State before meeting with the Aggies. The game between USU and Wyoming is set for Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. at Tower Field.
