LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UTAH STATE SOCCER DEFEATS NORTHERN ARIZONA
LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Utah State's women's soccer team defeated the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 3-2 in Las Vegas Friday night. The win improves the Aggies' record to 3-3-1 on the season, USU's best start after its first seven games in the program's five-year history.
Senior Becky Ward scored first for Utah State. Lumberjack Sarah Pachan answered five minutes later to put NAU on the board. Aggie sophomore Amber Tracy knocked in a goal at the start of the second half, followed by junior Brigid Turner, who put the final point on the board for the Aggies off of a penalty kick. Holly Jones, who leads the Jacks in points, paced NAU's offense, as she took four shots and scored with ten minutes left in the game.
Tracy has now scored four goals in the past five games. Ward has three goals this season so far. The goals are, incidentally, Ward's first three career goals as well.
The Lumberjacks took 19 shots in the game, while USU took 16. NAU committed only four fouls, the Aggies posted nine. Utah State goalkeeper Tracy Bracy recorded three saves in the contest.
The Aggies' next opponent is the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. The Rebels are 2-3-2 on the season, although they have yet to meet Cal Poly before facing Utah State Sunday afternoon.
