LOGAN, Utah - Led by Zuzana Cernianska's16 kills on 29 attacks, Utah State's volleyball team defeated Cal State Fullerton tonight by final scores of 30-22, 30-21, 30-23. With the win, USU improves to 9-8 on the season and 3-4 in the Big West Conference, while Cal State Fullerton falls to 4-16 overall and 0-7 in league play.
"It was nice to get three wins at home," said Utah State head coach Burt Fuller. "We're playing better and it was important to get these three matches."
Junior Erin Cartwright also had 13 kills on 24 attacks with a match high .458 percentage. Cartwright and Cernianska led the Aggies with four blocks assists each.
Utah State hit .326 attack percentage, with 57 kills on 132 total attacks. The Aggies also limited Cal State Fullerton to a hitting percentage of just .095, with 32 kills. USU had 16 blocks on the night, while CSF posted five blocks, including four block assists.
"We have a great group of kids who are starting to come together," said Fuller. "We have so many new faces, and we're still in the process of all getting to the same page. This week was a big step for us."
Utah State has won seven straight matches against the Titans and pulled ahead 14-13 all-time.
Utah State will return to the road as the Aggies travel to Pacific and Cal State Northridge on Thur., Oct. 17 and Sat., Oct. 19.
