Aggie doubles tandem Andy Marsh and Brandon Butler rebounded from an early loss Wednesday to record a win in the doubles consolation bracket. Thursday was the opening of consolation play for both singles and doubles.
Doubles was originally single elimination, but was added to the consolation schedule late Wednesday. Through Thursday the Aggies had posted a record of 2-11 going 0-8 in singles, 2-3 in doubles.
On Thursday Marsh and Butler opened play facing the duo of Lindley/Williams of Weber State. The Aggie duo proved to be too much for the pair from Weber State as they outlasted them 8-6. Marsh and Butler continue to vie for the championship of the back draw when they play on Friday.
Other Aggies seeing action on Thursday included Jason Trask,Jacob Jensen, and Andy Marsh. Trask fell to Butch Stravardis of Idaho State, 6-4, 6-4. Jacob Jensen won the first set of his match, only to fall 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to Martin Black of Air Force. Marsh was also on the losing end of his match, falling to Tejeshwara Chigateri of Montana State, 6-2, 6-1.
This regional tournament concludes Utah State's fall season. The spring season, in which the Aggies will compete as a team rather than as individuals, will begin Jan. 17, 2003 against Air Force in Logan.
