Volleyball Loses To Cal Poly In Three Games

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's volleyball team fell to 10-12 on the season and 4-7 in the Big West Conference following its three-game loss to Cal Poly here tonight by final scores of 23-30, 23-30, and 16-30. The Mustangs improved to 10-10 overall and 9-3 in league play with the win.

Utah State played even with Cal Poly through much of game one and had a one-point advantage at 22-21 before the Mustangs went on a 9-1 run to end the game. The Aggies opened game two with 10-4 lead, only to see Cal Poly close the gap and tie the game at 15. The Mustangs then slowly extended its lead and recorded the seven-point win. In game three, Cal Poly took control early and coasted to the win.

Individually for Utah State, freshman Zuzana Cernianska (Prague, Czech Republic) had a team-high 14 kills to go along with 13 digs, while junior Erin Cartwright (Hyrum, Utah) added 13 kills.

As a team, Utah State hit .096 in the match, while Cal Poly hit .284 overall. The Mustangs also notched 12 team blocks in the match as compared to five for the Aggies.

Utah State will return to action on Sat., Nov. 2 when they host fifth-ranked UC Santa Barbara at the 7 p.m. at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
