Volleyball Loses To UC Santa Barbara In Three Games

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Utah State's women's volleyball team dropped a three-game match to seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara tonight by final scores of 30-24, 30-21, 30-22 to fall to 6-7 on the season and 1-3 in the Big West Conference. With the win, the Gauchos improved to 14-0 overall and 5-0 in league play.

The best game of the match for the Aggies was the first game as USU hit .171 as a team with 10 kills, while UC Santa Barbara hit .250 with 20 kills. USU posted 14 kills in game two, but hit just .116, while the Gauchos hit .371 with 16 kills. The third and final game was similiar to the second with the Aggies hitting just .100, while UCSB hit .289.

Individually for Utah State, junior Erin Cartwright (Hyrum, Utah) had a team-high 12 kills and six blocks, while freshman Jenna Jordan (Plant City, Fla.) added eight kills and four blocks. Junior Tereza Cernianska (Prague, Czech Republic) led USU with nine digs.

As a team, Utah State hit .125 in the match, while UC Santa Barbara hit .299. UCSB recorded 20 more digs in the match (61-41), along with 14 more kills (51-37). Both teams notched nine team blocks in the match.

Utah State will return to action on Sat., Oct. 5 at Cal Poly.
