Volleyball Loses To UC Santa Barbara in Four Games

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's volleyball team lost a four-game match to fifth-ranked UC Santa Barbara here tonight by final scores of 19-30, 30-28, 20-30 and 23-30 to fall to 10-13 on the season and 4-8 in the Big West Conference. The Gauchos improved to 23-0 on the year and 13-0 in league play with the win.

UC Santa Barbara hit a blistering .389 in the opening game and held Utah State to a .024 hitting percentage en route to an easy 11-point win. USU rallied for the win in game two by hitting .300 with 22 kills. The Gauchos defensive held the Aggies at bay in games three and four as USU hit only .111 and .146 respectively as UCSB recorded the four-game win.

Individually for Utah State, freshman Zuzana Cernianska (Prague, Czech Republic) had a team-high 17 kills to go along with six digs, while junior Erin Cartwright (Hyrum, Utah) added 15 kills and seven digs. Senior Emily Kennedy (Arcadia, Calif.) led USU with 14 digs.

As a team, Utah State hit .152 in the match, while UC Santa Barbara hit .277. The Gauchos also recorded 20 more digs in the match (83-63) and notched 12 team blocks to just four for the Aggies.

Utah State will return to action next weekend when they travel to Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside on Fri., Nov. 8 and Sat., Nov. 9.
