HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Desmond Penigar hit a pair of free throws with seven seconds left to help Utah State secure a 62-59 victory over Vermont on Friday night.

Vermont (3-1) had pulled to within one point, 60-59, on Andre Anderson's 3-pointer with seven seconds to go in the opener of the round-robin Hilo Shootout.

Penigar led the Aggies (3-0) with 16 points, while Mark Brown added 15 and six assists.

Taylor Coppenrath had 23 points and 12 rebounds for Vermont. He was 7-of-16 from the field, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range, while hitting all six of his free throws.

Nearing the break, Utah State was leading by five points, 23-17, before Coppenrath scored five points, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, during a Vermont rally, and Utah State led 27-25 at the half.

Matt Sheftic added 16 points for Vermont.
