Box Score

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Utah State softball lost to No. 2 UCLA 9-0 in the final game of the Fiesta Bowl Tournament Sunday. USU (0-5) played in the tournament, hosted by Arizona State, in Tempe, Ariz., for the fourth consecutive year.

"The score today really wasn't representative of the effort and attitude we showed on the field," said head coach Debbie Bilbao. "We let a couple of two-out situations get out of control, and offensively, we left a lot of runners on base. I really think that overall we had a good tournament, and an 0-5 record doesn't show the heart and soul of this team."

The Aggies were held to just three hits in the game, and stranded five runners. Breanne Smith, USU's senior catcher, was 2-3 on the day, while rightfielder Marnie Andrews was 1-1 with a walk. Freshman pitcher Lindsay Janssen worked a complete game, and allowed five earned runs in six innings. She struck out four and walked two.

The Aggies travel to San Diego, Calif., Friday through Sunday for the San Diego State Tournament. There, they face Nothwestern, Loyola Marymount, No. 3 Stanford, No. 11 Michigan and No. 16 Fresno State in the three-day event.
