Andy Madersbacher and Jason Trask each won singles matches for Utah State, but the Aggies fell to New Mexico State 5-2 in the first round of the UNLV Men's Tennis Invitational here Friday.
Utah State dropped to 2-5 this spring and will play Weber State in the consolation bracket on Saturday at 11 a.m. Weber State lost to Colorado 7-0 on Friday.
Madersbacher defeated Mike Hellwig 6-4, 6-3 at number one singles to improve his individual record to 2-5 this spring. Trask won his match at number four singles and improved to team-best 6-1.
The Aggies lost all three doubles matches, with the closest match being an 8-6 decision at number one. Madersbacher teamed with Clayton Thomas in that match as the duo fell to 3-4 this spring.
