Utah State's men's tennis team won its second straight match, defeating Idaho State 4-1 to place fifth at the UNLV Spring Invitational here on Sunday.
The Aggies were led by Andy Madersbacher, who went a perfect 3-0 in singles play in the tournament. Madersbacher won his number one singles match against Vasico Devidze 6-2, 6-1 on Sunday, while Jason Trask and Jordan Butler also added victories at number two and number three singles respectively.
Sam Harris fell at number four singles, while the number five and number six singles competitions were not held due to the fact USU earned four points to claim the win. USU's fourth point came when Jonah Nelson and Clayton Thomas combined to win one doubles match.
UNLV won its tournament defeating Colorado 4-3 in the championship match, while New Mexico State defeated Nevada, Reno 7-0 for third place and Weber State finished seventh with a final round bye.
Utah State, which finished the tournament with a 2-1 record to improve to 4-5 on the year, will face a three-match road trip starting at Cal Poly on Feb. 23, UC Santa Barbara on the 24th and Pacific on the 25th.
